IBM ultraport BT sync

Does anyone have any experience with the IBM ultraport BT module and hotsyncing?

My IBM has one "real" com port available at com 1. The Hotsync Local Serial setting also shows com 1, but states that the port is already in use. The IBM BT console has a Local Service serial port at com 5.

If I change the "real" serial com port in the hardware device manager to 5, then the Hotsync Local Serial setting can also be set at 5, which is the same as the BT console.

But, although the ux50 and the IBM laptop "see" each other, I can't hotsync. The IBM Bluetooth neighborhood "sees" the ux50, but only lists an "Inbox" as an available service (I assume that it should also list a serial port.)

I'm stuck.

I am hotsyncing using a UX50 and an IBM TP A31p with build-in BlueTooth.

Take a look at the device manager. you will find a lot of virtual com ports used by the BlueTooth Device.

I simply tried the com ports one a time in the 'Local, Serial Port' list until I found that Com 5 was the one my Clie was connecting to.

Your Bluetooth driver may be different if you do not have a list of 14 com ports as I have.

Com ports

Hmm. My Device Manager just lists a BT modem, null modem, and fax modem. I have disabled all of those. No other coms appeared to have been taken. (This is on a TP T23).

Thanks.

Look under Ports (COM & LPT), not modems. I have Bluetooth Communications Port (Com4) to Com14

Did you install the IBM Bluetooth drivers from the Device Driver Matrix available at
http://www-3.ibm.com/pc/support/sit...cid=TPAD-MATRIX

Regards

Yep. Must be the difference between built-in BT and the Ultraport module. I don't have any additional com ports listed in the device manager. Thanks.

Michael:

I installed a new version of the Ultraport software (mine was one rev. old), and now I have the same com ports that you do. Works like a charm. Thanks so much for your advice.
