| Jim's Tips #2: Copy files on MS to/from your PC How do you copy files from your Memory Stick to your PC? Use the MSImport program! It's included free with the NX70V, and is much faster than HotSyncing do the card.
You must first install onto your PC the Memory Stick Export program found on your Installation CD. Click on "Clie Utilities > Memory Stick Export" and follow the prompts. You may be asked to reboot--do it.
Now, when you put your NX in the cradle and execute the MSImport program on the Clie, your PC detects the Memory Stick as a removable hard drive and maps it to the next available drive letter. (I'm using Windows XP Pro, and this happens automatically.)
You just open up an Explorer window and navigate through the directory structure. You can copy, move, rename, and delete files. You can add and delete directories. Pretty cool! Just be very careful when deleting! You could really screw things up if you don't know what you are deleting!
It's simple and fast!

| However, I'm still using windows 98 - I like windows 98 much better because of LESS security - but be careful about using either the export or import program, because under win 98, import or export may lockup win98, but not always. |

| I back up many PC files on MS in case of a virus crash (I never open attach's from unknown senders) or system failure. Lots of Office '97 templates are saved as well. "Favorites" and "Address Book" are worth loading to MS.

| My laptop does not have a floppy drive. Using MSImport the PDA with memory stick becomes an excellent portable disk drive for transfer of files from a desktop to a laptop.

| 128mb MS to pc I use Clie to copy my pics made my DSC-P10.
To do that I use MS Import v 1.1.3
Works fine when copying 2-5 pics but when I try the whole 128mb it just hangs and have to reset Clie with reset button at the back.
Any suggestions? |

| That's a large transfer. Do a few items at a time. My 128 is full with, you name it, and no crashes when I did a recall.

| Another symptom of copying large amounts of files is that the PC can hang, blue-screen, or simply reboot. And I mean "number" of files, not "size" of files. I have copied huge files (80-100MB) to the MS without issue--it's when I move large numbers of files that things go South. I presume that the same thing may be happening with your Clie. (I'm using an NX70V, BTW.)
According to several threads here on ClieSource, this is a known bug in the Sony drivers which Sony hasn't fixed (and many say, they won't.) This is a shame, because I would simply like to backup everything on my MS to my PC Hard drive. I can do it, but it takes many "copy sessions" moving small groups of files at a time.
You could probably use an external card reader connected to your PC, but I haven't tried it.

#11 | | Guest | I also use the Lexar Jumpdrive Trio - it plugs into a usb port and shows up as an extra drive. Uses XP drivers and is USB 2.0 ready, so fairly fast. Pull out the memory stick and back in the SJ33. | |

| on the second thougth, you right, it is hanging if I transfare large amount of files. and yes, i also found out that by simply copying few files at the time does the trick.
I THINK IT STINKS THAT SONY KNOW ABOUT THE BUG A ND IS NOT PREPARE TO FIX IT !!!!!!!!
But then again, we are not living in the perfect world
happy copying |

| I only have one cradle which is usually at work. If I need to transfer files at home to thew MS, I sometimes use my Sony Camera. WindowsXP sees it as an extra hard drive and you just drag files striaght to it.
Anyone else use this method? |
